Despite considerable efforts, and for almost a decade, the Bronx still ranks as #62 out of 62 counties in the state, making it one of New York’s poorest and unhealthiest counties. To help change this trajectory, our vision is to design, implement and evaluate physical activity programming to help create physically fit individuals so they can help build strong sustainable healthy Bronx communities.

Our intent is to apply an equity lens to the existing recommendations, theoretical frameworks and national guidelines around physical activity for both youth and adults. We will do this by designing sustainable programs and services that translate to the specific social, cultural and physical health disparities and needs of each of the underserved Bronx communities we look to serve, allowing them to live the healthiest life possible while creating an upward trajectory of the Bronx’s health.

In working with community partners, our hope is to use the next ten years to move the needle and change the trajectory of the Bronx’s health through physical activity.

We work towards accomplishing the ambitious goal of moving this needle by 10% in the next ten years, specifically in increasing physical activity and decreasing the percentage of hypertension, obesity, and diabetes in Bronx communities.
